Bats

There are 900 kinds of bats. Some are very small. Most bats sleep and rest during the day and hunt for food at night. When they rest, they hang upside down by their feet. Their legs are very weak and they cannot walk on them. Many bats eat insects, but others eat fruit or flowers. Bats can live as long as ten years.

Bats avoid flying into trees and objects by using a kind of radar. They make a sound that people cannot hear and when it hits an object, the sound bounces back at them. When they hear it, they can avoid flying into the object.
