Cape Buffalo

Cape BuffaloHabitat: Congo Basin.
 
Diet: Grass, herbs, shoots, and fruits. Mostly feed on grass.
 
Enemies: Wild cats, lions, and leopards. Big game hunters.
 
Facts: They are very powerful. "Like being hit by a truck".
Can run about 40 miles in the desert or rainforest.
Not afraid of lions or leopards.
 
The herd of Cape Buffalo will surround a wild cat if it tries to attack one of their own.
 
They are about 7-11 feet long, about 3 1/2 feet tall, and can weigh from 575-1500 pounds. They weigh a little less than the American Buffalo.
 
The Cape Buffalo gives birth to 1 young and can mate at age 3.
Their battles can be gruesome and bloody.
They are mammals belonging to the Bovid family.
The young stay with the mother for two or three years.
They can be brown or black.
They are quickly vanishing from their habitats.
 
A virus called "ridenest" kills many of the Cape Buffalo.
