Reconstruction of  Mesopotamian Ziggurat

The ziggurat was a very important religous and civic structure to the Mesopotamians. They were built with-in wallled city-states, and had a steplike structure. Other forms of architecture included smaller temples, ceremonial buildings, and huge impressive palaces of stone like Persepolis of the Persian. In this picture, a model of the Ziggurat of Ur,  the steplike structure is very evident.
