GENOA:
Our visit to genoese Baroque starts from Via Garibaldi, because of the
splendor of palaces that contains architectonic scenographies of amazing
beauty. In these street are set the most amazing examples of ligurian
Baroque ; at N° 18 rises "Palazzo Rosso" built in 1671: today
is a museum containing the most important picture-gallery of '600.
"Plazzo Bianco", standing in front of the Red one, is teh seat
of the most important museum of the city. Ahead, in Pellicceria Square ,
is set the national Gallery of Palazzo Spinola. We advice you to visit
also balbi streeet, designed and opened from 1602 and 1620 by Balbi's
family, to improve the visibility of the dock; there you can find the
university's palace (masterpiece of Bartolomeo Biamco) the Jesuit 's
college in the first half of the century.
At N° 10 of Balbi's street , rises the Royal Palace, today it gives
hospitality to te Royal Palace Gallery. Not to lose the visit to Doria
Pamphily palace with its garden that holds the big Nettun's fountain
created by Carlone in 1599. In the historical part of the city we can
admire St Pancrazio church; inside it are set the frescos of Boni and the
St Pancarazio statues, made by F. Parodi. In Lomellini streeet is
visitable the Oratory's Church and the Filippo Neri's convent; In St Luca
street you can admire the homonymous church , painted by Domenico Piola.
In Matteotti square rises "In nome di Gesu church" where is
possible to admire two pictures of Rubens. The St Marta church, in
Corvetto square, hold a lot of frescos of Gerolamo Piola and Filippo
Parodi; Finally in Pammatone street we find "St Croce" and
" St Camillo" churches; on the high grounds of the city there is
the "church of the Madonnetta". |
