Antoine Henri Becquerel
(1852-1919) was a French physicist whose research led him to the study of fluorescence in minerals. He discovered radioactivity when studying uranium compounds, which, unlike other fluorescent substances, fogged photographic plates even without having been exposed to strong light. He shared a Nobel prize for his discovery with Pierre and Marie Curie in 1903.
