Cartoon strip
"Cartoon" comes from the Greek OcomedyO meaning "funny". All cartoon strips for children are funny because through humour kids can be not only amused but also taught. Cartoon strip collections OOpticsO and "Amusing mechanics" by caricaturists L. Storozhuk and M. Kurdyumov are worth mentioning.

"Father" of the cartoon strips Tepfer who created OMister ZhabotOs StoryO said that "those who draw prevail over those who write". Children prefer to watch but not to read. Cartoon strips are closer to cinema but not to literature. That is why cartoon strips by W. Busch are so popular. His creations had an influence on A. Einstein, A. Benois. S. Eisenstein. S. Eisenstein drew a lot of cartoon strips in his juvenile years. W. Busch also wrote funny, witty poems.

In 1930 the first story about Mickey Mouse, Walt DisneyOs best known creation, appeared. In 1934 a weekly newspaper "Mickey" came out in Paris. "Mickey newspaper" in America popularized cartoon strips. One of the artists who worked in DisneyOs company was K. Barcks. He created Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, and others. Barcks worked with Disney for 6 years, in 1942 he got a job at one cartoon strip company. He drew 6731 pages of ducksO stories, animal cartoon characters.

In 1990 Mickey came to Russia. For a long time in the Soviet Union all connections with the West were forbidden, cartoon strips were unknown for Soviet people. In 1960 in the magazine "Science and Life" short stories about professor Nazer and about a dog Pif and a cat Hercules were published. In 1992 this series of stories was published in the complete version.

In 1952 a Finnish writer T. Yanson invented another cartoon creature Mummi-troll. The stories about him are still very popular.

In the late XXth century cartoon strips appeared not only in the USA but also in Europe and Asia. There were no cartoon strips collections in Russia. The first "Topsy-turvy" by P. Pyarn was published in 1980. Cartoon strips in children's magazines were drawn by E. Milutka, I. Makarov, and V. Rozantsev. In 1990s A. Semenov drew in the magazine

"Misha", V. Burkin - in OGuide", A. Reznikov "In "Sputnik". Now there is one Russian cartoon strip magazine for children "Mishka".
