If you need to enlarge your family our photographer makes it quickly. The OCrocodileO magazine.

Just after Louis Dagger had got the picture on a silver plate, clergy, printers and lithographers were strongly against his invention, one of the opponents was C. baudelaire. Imagine the reaction of caricaturists who are always ready to make fun of everything.

In 1840 J. Platye drew a caricature ODaggeromaniaO: a lot of customers attacking photo shops and on the back O gallows with hanged lithographers whose life became impossible after the appearance of such a strong competitor like photography. O. DaumierOs attitude to this invention was dual: on the one hand he thought the photograph to be soulless, on the other hand he mocked the conservative middlebrow. One of prints portrayed two buddies tired of photoshot which lasted for many hours and was accompanied with the following words:OPatience is the donkeysO virtueO. In another caricature Nadar, a photographer, took pictures of Paris from a balloonOs basket. What seemed so funny in the first photograph experiments? The bulky contrivance for making photos and for fixing an object of the photographing.

In 1890s P. Shmelkov drew a series of caricatures OPhotographic posesO where merchants, artisans, and functionaries were the models.

The first photographers had to be not only patient but also strong enough to carry heavy cameras, glass plates with negatives, and tripods. The photographers had to be also brave. In the caricature by N. Stepanov two photographers fight for the right to make the first shots of the famous Shamil. Re-Mi in OSatiriconO drew a photographer O hunter who was sure that Oif he missed a hare he would get it with KodakO.

Photograph has always attracted caricaturists with its unpredictability, a dialogue between a person and a mechanism gave wide opportunities for the painters.

H. Bidsrup drew series of caricatures about photographers. In one of them girls beat a photographer for the pictures they did not like. In the OPinsO magazine of the 1970s a series of caricatures by S. Dali was published.

Sometimes combined exhibitions of caricatures and photographs are held (Mariampole). Humorous exhibitions of photographs are also popular (Gabrovo, Knokke-Heist, Warsaw, Moscow- OPhoto 1989O, etc).

On a cover of a Lithuanian catalogue Eve gives Adam forbidden fruit O a camera. Since that time people make pictures, and joke about photographs.
