Postcards-caricatures for the sole of propaganda were very popular during the Civil War in Russia.

Postcards with anti-religious caricatures by V. Deni, D. More, V. Kozlinski, M. Cheremnikh were published in 1920s, and republished in 1963 in connection with the anti-religious campaign. The series of postcards УRussian satirical drawing of the early XXth centuryФ had to remind the Soviet citizens that Уeverlasting struggle went onФ and struggle between classes transformed into the struggle between social systems. Humorous postcards were also published at that time (УTypes of MoscowФ Ц УAt the tram stopФ).

A postcard by V. Govorkov УHitler wants to eat - letТs feed himФ, opening the УwarФ subject in the July 1941. Caricatures on the postcards ridiculed the enemy and helped the soldiers win. B. Efimov, L. Samoilov, V. Galba, N. Muratov, and others drew caricatures on the postcards.

Postcards devoted to hunting and fishing, postcards for children with the most favourite fairy-tales characters appeared after the Second World War. The postcards with the characters of K. ChukovskiТs, S. MarshakТs, and S. MikhalkovТs books were popular. Later the New Year postcards with cartoon characters were published.

In the 1960s a new subject for the postcards appeared Ц space- smiling Heavenly bodies, merry sputniks, and rockets became the characters of the postcards. Postcards with the famous paintingsТ reproductions were issued.

In 1959 a series of postcards УRussian porcelainФ was published. A monk carrying a girl in a hay sheaf was depicted in one of the postcards. A scandalous story was connected with this picture which first was published at the beginning of the XIXth century. Savva Saratovsky, the archimandrite, made a complaint to the local government about selling indecent statuettes which were produced at the GardnerТs factory. But the authorities found the statuettes virtuous. Then the highest instance, even the tzar Alexander I was involved, and the production of the statuettes was stopped.

The political pictures, caricatures from the УCrocodileФ magazine, drawings by the classics of the Soviet caricaturists M. Cheremnikh, Kukriniksi were published on the postcards.
