The metal pen was not in wide
use until the second quarter of the nineteenth century, when advances in
production methods made it possible to manufacture them in number. The hard,
precise line of the metal pen is easily recognizable in the line drawings of
Picasso and Matisse or of nineteenth and twentieth century illustrators and
cartoonists
