The rancher who modeled for this drawing told me that on a good day he is able open and close this gate with his hands - like I have drawn here.  On other days he has to wrap his arms around the posts and give it a bear hug for extra leverage.  This is a very familiar scene on a ranch since it is a job that has to be done countless times a day.
