A crow on a branch with a pilfered slice of cheese

Was addressed by a fox in words like these:

"Why, hullo !

You're looking gorgeous this morning, Mr.Crow.

In fact you'd be the paragon of all birds,

A veritable Romeo,

Were it not for one thing -

We're not sure you can sing."

At these words

The crow, beside himself with pleasure,

Opened his mouth to sing, and dropped his treasure,

Which the fox snapped up in a trice,

Too late the crow regretted his lost slice."
