The tenor drum has a wooden shell, which is deeper than it is wide. The tenor drum is larger than the snare drum, has two head, and has no snares. It is played with a pair of drumsticks. The tenor drum is usually played in marching bands.

bass drum
The bass drum can be up to forty inches wide and twenty inches deep. It sits on, or is suspended in, a steel frame. It is played with a beater that has a soft head, usually covered with felt or lamb's wool.

snare drum
The snare drum began as a military instrument.
It is a small, round drum with two heads: a batter head that is hit, and a snare head that has snares (strands of wires) attached to it. When the snares are tightened, they vibrate against the snare head, giving the drum a bright sound. When the snares are off, the sound is dull like a tom-tom. The snare drum is played with two drumsticks. The play can play taps, bounces, and drumrolls.
