Adams, John Ottis (1851 - 1927)

Adams was raised in Indiana, attended Wabash College, South Kensington School of Art in London, and at the Munich Academy. With fellow Hoosiers, T.C. Steele and Samuel Richards he established the Hoosier Colony in Munich. Upon his return to the U.S. he established a studio in Muncie, later joined by William Forsythe. Adams was the principal instructor of drawing and paintings at Herron. In 1899 he purchased a home in Brookville with the Steele's, The Hermitage, known by the artists as Indiana's Barbizon. His wife, Winifred Adams was an accomplished artist as well. Her work is represented in the museum's collection with the still life, Golden Glow.
