Barbusse, Henri 1873 -- 1935
Novelist, born in Asnières, France. A volunteer, he fought in World War 1, which inspired his masterpiece, Le Feu (1916, trans Under Fire). Other works include Le Couteau entre les dents (1921, The Knife between the Teeth) and Le Judas de Jésus (1927). A noted pacifist, he later settled in the Soviet Union.
