Cray, Seymour Roger (1925- )

US computer scientist and pioneer in the field of supercomputing. He designed one of the earliest computers to contain transistors 1960. In 1972 he formed Cray Research to build the first supercomputer, the Cray-1, released 1976. Its success led to the production of further supercomputers, including the Cray-2 1985, the Cray Y-MP, a multiprocessor design 1988, and the Cray-3 1989.
