Doll, William Richard (1912-)

British physician who, working with Professor Bradford Hill (1897- ), provided the first statistical proof of the link between smoking and lung cancer in 1950. In a later study of the smoking habits of doctors, they were able to show that stopping smoking immediately reduces the risk of cancer.
