Hey, Jean
( fl 1494–1504).
Netherlandish painter, active in France. An Ecce homo (1494; Brussels, Mus. A. Anc.) bears a signed and dated inscription with his name and that of the patron, Jean Cueillette, an official of Charles VIII. The style of the painting, his surname and the epiphet teutonicus suggest that he was of Netherlandish origin. Jean Hey was included in Jean Lemaire de Belges’s list of the greatest living painters (1504), and he has been identified as the Master of Moulins.
