| Landy,
Michael (1963 - ) |
| Michael Landy was born in London in 1963. He studied at Loughborough College of Art, and Goldsmiths College, London. Landy's installations, videos and drawings create an artificial world which remind us of some of the more sinister aspects of the society in which we live and our complicity in sustaining its dehumanizing values. Scrapheap Services, his best-known large-scale installation, first introduced us to the fictitious cleaning company which offered its services to a 'prosperous society [which] depends upon a minority of people being discarded'. Recent exhibitions include Scrapheap Services, Chisenhale Gallery, London (1996), Michael Landy at Home 7 Fashion Street, London (1999) and Diary, Cornerhouse, Manchester (2000).
