Chinese physicist whose research
centred on the physics of weak nuclear forces. In 1956 Lee proposed that
weak nuclear forces between elementary particles might disobey certain
key assumptions; for instance, the conservation of parity. He shared the
1957 Nobel Prize for Physics with his colleague Yang Chen Ning (1922-
).
Lee trained in China; a scholarship sent him to the USA in 1946, working
mostly on particle physics at the Princeton Institute of Advanced Study
and at the University of California. |
