Linda Lucas-Hardy was born in Texarkana,
Arkansas but spent her growing up years split between Ft. Worth and
Texarkana, Texas. A strong desire to draw and a natural ability surfaced
early in Lucas-Hardy's life. She began her early art training at the age of
thirteen by taking private lessons. By the time she was in high school art
had become her primary interest. In the mid 1960's she entered Texarkana Jr.
College but withdrew after a year and a half to get married and raise a
family. She did not resume her studies until the mid 1980's, when her love
for art was reignited by taking an oil painting class at ETSU Texarkana. The
following year she enrolled in North East Texas Community College to, as she
put it, "take an art course", which was meant to occupy some of her time
after the youngest of her children, twins, started school. Her "art course"
included every art class offered, some she took more than once, and lasted
eight years. In 1992 she lost interest in all other mediums and began to focus her attention on colored pencil. From then on she began developing and fine tuning her own techniques of blending colored pencil to give a photo realistic look. In 1993, Lucas-Hardy began painting professionally in the fine arts, however, she wasn't able to give herself fully to her passion until 1999, when all her children were grown. Since that time she has devoted herself to producing artwork that is both intricately detailed and true to life. Her paintings are in private collections in Texas, Oklahoma and California. Lucas-Hardy resides in Omaha, a small rural East Texas town with her husband of 31 years, John. They have seven grown children and eight grandchildren. She is a member of the Mt. Pleasant Texas Art Society, the Colored Pencil Society of America, CPSA 215, the Dallas/Ft Worth District Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society of America and a member of CPSA 101 which is based in Canton,Ohio. |
