| Marca-Relli,
Conrad (Boston, 5 June 1913-) |
| American painter and printmaker, best known
for his works in the realm of ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM. Trained briefly at the Cooper Union Institute, New York (1930), his early work was strongly influenced by Giorgio de Chirico. By the early 1950s, he graduated to abstract works, most characteristic of which include biomorphic canvas shapes painted in bright or sombre colours, with allusions to figurative and landscape forms. Like de Kooning, he is considered as one of the few Abstract Expressionist that retain an attachment to subject-matter. His artworks can also be found at the leading American museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum, New York. |
