Raoult, François (1830-1901)

French chemist. In 1882, while working at the University of Grenoble, Raoult formulated one of the basic laws of chemistry. Raoult's law enables the relative molecular mass of a substance to be determined by noting how much of it is required to depress the freezing point of a solvent by a certain amount.
