| Physician and friend of Galileo, born in Capodistria, Italy. He studied at Padua, and in 1611 became professor of theoretical medicine there. He invented the clinical thermometer, a pulsimeter, a hygrometer, and other instruments, but he is best known for his investigations into the fluctuations of the body's weight under different conditions. |
