Saville, Jenny
(1970 - )

Jenny Saville paints and photographs nudes: large, painterly and fleshy pictures. They are usually of large people and consist of just the body - few props or narrative elements are included in the works. Nothing distracts the viewer away from the raw and sometimes grotesque subject and paintwork.
Saville, who used to work in a plastic surgeon's office, produces works that are so real you are often revolted by their massiveness. The features she presents are clearly and well rendered presenting no question of technical inadequacies. She paints mammoth bodies in a tactile manner and presents fat women not just in an aggressively challenging manner but in an aesthetically interesting style. She is a prominent YBA and has had works in the major exhibitions featuring this 'group'
