Schumann, Clara Josephine, nee Wieck (1819–1896)
German pianist and composer. Made concert debut (1828); toured throughout Europe often; m. (1840) Robert Schumann; intimate with Johannes Brahms (from 1853) and influenced his music; taught at Hoch Conservatory, Frankfurt (1878–92); renowned as interpreter of Chopin, Brahms, and her husband; composed songs and works for piano, including a concerto (1836).
