one of the most popular and influential choreographers of his generation.
He trained under British ballet dancer Antony Tudor
and American
modern dancers Martha Graham,
Doris Humphrey, and
José
Limón. Taylor performed with various groups, including
the Martha Graham Company from 1955 to 1962, and formed his own company
in 1955. In 1993 he created Taylor 2, a company to introduce modern
dance to new audiences. Taylor has also choreographed for the American
Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, and Paris Opéra
Ballet.
