| Solar eclipse animation (1994) |
This animation illustrates the
1994 solar eclipse from an imaginary vantage point on the Sun (with a
telescope to enlarge the size of the Earth). The shadow cast on the Earth
is the penumbra, which can cover a region thousands of kilometers in diameter.
If the eclipse is total, the path of totality traced out by the umbra
is much narrower. Animation was produced with the program Starry Night)
