These are the conifers, or cone-bearing trees, such as pine, fir, cypruss and redwood. Conifers are vascular plants
that produce naked seeds in cones. Their cones and needle-like leaves can be used to identify the 500 or so species in this division. Most live in the northern latitudes of the world, such as in North America and Russia. The vast evergreen forests are an important resource that must be managed and preserved properly. Old growth forests unfortunately continue to be logged and include a growing list of endangered species.
