The boiling point of a liquid occurs when the vapor pressure of that liquid is equal to the outside pressure on the liquid.

Due to the dependence on outside pressure, the boiling point of a liquid in a open container depends on the altitude. If you boil water on top of a mountain where the air is thinner, the water will boil at a lower temperature.
