Terceira, Azores
Terceira has had two historic eruptions. A Strombolian eruption in 1761
caused minor damage on the island. A submarine eruption in 1867 produced
large explosions, but no damage was reported.
- January 8, 1999
- An underwater eruption was photographed
on January 11 near the island of Terceira. Plumes of smoke were photographed
on the ocean's surface above the eruption. This eruption began on December
18 after a series of tremors in November. There is no current threat
