Pyroxene
(pronounced: peer-ox-zene)

Pyroxene is a diverse group of minerals composed of magnesium- iron- calcium- aluminum silicates. It is sufficient to mention augite which is a common mineral in basalt which is from the oceanic crust and gabbro which is from the volcanic areas on the continents.

Pyroxene is usually dark or black. It is commonly found as phenocrysts in lavas.
