Nephrotome

[Gr. nephros - the kidneys; Gr. tome - a section]. A stalk-like connection between somites and lateral plate mesoderm which anteriorly forms the pronephos and posteriorly forms mesenchyme which develops into the mesonephros and metanephros. Synonyms: intermediate mesoderm, mesomere, nephromere.
