Spermatocyte

[Gr. spermatos - seed, semen; Gr. kytos - a hollow vessel; modern usage cyt- denotes a cell]. An immature diploid germ cell found in the testis that arose from a spermatogonium and that will undergo two meiotic divisions to become four spermatids.
