Jellyfish image courtesy of UCMP Berkeley ![]() Schphozoa, also known as jellyfish (or jellies), is a class within Phylum Cnidaria. This class is characterized by a thick mesoglea, thus making the organism take on a more gelatinous consistency, hence the name jellyfish. Jellyfish are primarily found in the medusa stage, but after copulation, a polyp is formed, called a planula. This polyp attaches to a substrate until it eventually buds off into the medusa form, as it will stay for the majority of its life. |
