| Solar eclipse animation (1995) |
This animation illustrates the 1995 solar eclipse from an imaginary vantage
point on the Moon (with a telescope to enlarge the size of the Earth). The
shadow cast on the Earth is the penumbra of the Moon, which can cover a region
thousands of kilometers in diameter. If the eclipse is total, the path of
totality traced out by the umbra is much narrower. Animation produced with the
program Starry
Night).
