Examine a slide of a flagellate and look for the mouth, flagella, food and contractile vacuoles, and eye spot (stigma). Flagellates have pellicles (outer flexibe walls). Living specimens change shape from elongated to stubby. Flagellates divide by fission. Many also have the ability to encyst during unfavorable conditions. Some live in fresh water. See these by making a wet mount of the pond sample. Others are parasitic. Some of the parasitic types such as Trypanosoma, Trichomans and Giardia are on demonstration.
